Clean Sweep for Bedfordshire Veteran 2nd Team
At the weekend, held at the newly refurbished St Neots TTC, Bedfordshire Veteran 2nd team wrapped up Division 4B of the County Championship retaining their 100% record.
The team consisting of Julie Snowdon, Colin Luscombe, Paul Birch, Dave Forde and Arron Beckett beat the Oxfordshire 3rd team 9-1, Berkshire 3rd team 8-2 on the Saturday and the Hertfordshire 5th & 6th teams 9-1 on the Sunday. Julie and Colin retained their 100% records over both weekends and on his debut for the county Arron Beckett won all four of his singles and combined with Colin to win both their doubles. Dave Forde, stepping up to No. 2 on the Sunday, was unlucky to lose to Andy Nash from Herts 5th team 9-11 in the 5th set and to Rob Adamson from the Herts 6th team 12-14 in the deciding 5th set.
The last match of the day on the Sunday, to decide runner-up, was between the Berkshire 3rd team and Northants 3rd team and although the latter won 6-4 making them equal on points the runner-up slot went to the Berkshire 3rd team on games won. So well done also to the Berkshire team of Jan Wright, Denise Rolfe, Cliff Putterford, Richard Rosinski, Mike Burrow, Dave Gilham and Clive Banham.
