For the first time in over forty years Bedford has attracted two of England's top table tennis players to provide an exhibition of world class table tennis on Monday 20th February from 5.00-7.00pm at Lincroft School, Oakley. Make your reservation by visiting www.revolutionttc.co.uk/england-exhibition. The England stars will also be on hand afterwards to sign autographs and provide coaching tips to future Bedfordshire junior stars. Commonwealth Games Mixed Doubles bronze medallists Kelly Sibley (England's No. 1 lady) and Danny Reed (England No. 6) who defeated the Singaporean No. 1 seeds at the 2016 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to win their bronze medals will be the outstanding attraction. The event is part of the promotion of the PG Mutual National Championships, this year taking place between 3rd-5th March in Nottingham. PG Mutual Chief Executive, Mike Perry, is an enthusiastic player at Revolution Table Tennis Club, who have their club based at Lincroft School, and has identified table tennis as a family friendly sport that complements his company's ethos. Bedfordshire's Disability Sports Award winner in 2016, Daniel Bullen, who at only 19 years of age and currently ranked No. 6 in the World Under-23 Class 5 category, will also show how table tennis can be played at an extreme level for non-standing players. An exhibition match between Kelly Sibley and Revolution's Sara Williams (England No 3. veteran lady) will also be something to look forward to. Afterwards, junior players will be invited to participate in a coaching session with the England players. This is a free event funded by the Bedford & District Table Tennis League and interest will be high so please make your reservation by visiting www.revolutionttc.co.uk/england-exhibition to avoid disappointment.

The annual tournament took place at Lincroft School on Saturday 21st January with forty two players hoping to pick up a trophy from eleven events. The Ladies singles competition was split into two groups with the two group winners competing in the final. Elstow's Yvonne Freer found herself pitted against Bedford Community's Cate Thomas and stormed away with the title for her second time 11-4, 11-9, 11-7.

The Men's singles title between winner from two years ago Marston's Matt Evans and club mate Mike Wilkins was expected to be a one sided affair and with the first two legs going 11-4, 11-7 it seemed the pundits were correct. However, Wilkins then showed his experience and bounced back to win the next two legs 11-7, 11-7 with a fine display of how to block Evan's punishing forehand loop. The final leg didn't disappoint the crowd and went to 9-9 until Evans closed the match and championship 11-9. The full list of results can be found by clicking on this article's title and a further report may appear later in the week. Thanks to Barbara Wright, Phil Crossley, Ian Baldock, Trevor Beard, Simon Collier and organiser John Alsop for helping the tournament to run on time.
