After a mercifully short illness, Dolly Harmer died of cancer on 20 January 2008, aged 88. She was a lifelong devotee of table tennis, and taught the game to so many children that many people in Leighton Buzzard refer to her as “Mrs Table Tennis”.
Full obituary to Dolly's exceptional life by Peter Clarke (Bedfordshire Chairman)
Dolly Harmer of the Leighton Buzzard League, Honorary Life Member and Vice President of Bedfordshire County Table Tennis Association and County Umpire sadly passed away during the night at Orchard Lodge Care Home, Tilsworth. She had been in her usual lively spirits earlier in the week, despite suffering from inoperable cancer, when visited by County Chairman Peter Clarke. Despite her advanced age of 88, Dolly, a former teacher, retained a keen interest in table tennis and her lively personality will be missed by all those who knew her.
The Bedford & District Table Tennis League send their sincere condolences and best wishes to her family and friends.

St Neots…where is that?
Well the Elstow Bees moved on to the first game after the Christmas break travelling to somewhere called St Neots? This is apparently MILES away from anywhere, it is even further away than Stevington!

Hold On To Your Hats ……
Having had no practice since our rather ignominious defeat in the Smith Plate last week we were not hopeful of a win against another of our old adversaries Marston. In our last encounter Marston won out easy winners 7-3. Our hopes however were raised when we found out that their best player Nick Wharton was not playing. The team that showed up was Keith Hudson, Mo Duncan, and a new boy to me, John Hughes.

Battered and bruised.
Having suffered a major beating last time we played, Elstow B team were not really looking forward to the trip to the Modern School sports hall to face the strong Civil Servants on their home patch.
