End of an Era - Doug Ayres
Spanning 29 years as President of the Bedford & District Table Tennis League and 60 years as a member of the Management Committee the retiring President, Doug Ayres, was presented with a crystal ship's decanter by the Chairman of the English Table Tennis Association, Alex Murdoch, at the 390,000 newly refurbished St Neots Table Tennis Club on Monday evening. His honorary post of President will be taken over by Bedford local property agent Russell Beard who has had a keen interest in table tennis since his school days. Jeff Perkins - RIP
Bedford League was saddened to hear of the sudden loss of Jeff Perkins, known to many as Secretary of the Civil Service club, League Vice President, League trophy secretary, League committee member for over 20 years and coach to many youngsters over the years through his involvement within Bedford schools. His funeral will be held at Norse Crematorium on 10th June at 11.30am and the family have asked for donations to be made to Coeliac UK through the Funeral Directors, Arnold's Funeral Service, 48 Roff Avenue, Bedford MK41 7TE (01234-359529). His close friend, Ken Collins, has been kind enough to write down his memories of Jeff which you can read by clicking on this article's title.

The date has been fixed for the St Neots TTC AGM which is at 8pm on Monday, 28th June 2010 in the club. We look forward to seeing and hearing from as many people as posible. Your views on how the centre should move forward are important to us.

Bedford Tournament - Silk Cruises To Treble
The Veteran's tournament took place on Wednesday evening at Bedford Modern School and Steve Silk, who had earlier this year taken the Men's singles title, completed his double by winning the Veteran title beating last year's winner John Alsop in the final 3-0. He then combined with John to make it a treble by taking the Veteran doubles title beating Dave Forde and Dave Beddall 3-0 in the final.

Bedford Tournament - Division 2 Results
The Division 2 tournament took place on Monday evening at Bedford Modern School and the final positions were:
1. Harpreet Rupal
2. Alex Meade
3. Malcolm Carr

Although a small entry, all the games were fought competitively.

It's All Over
All matches have now been played and the ladder is complete. Congratulations to the divisional winners and to all those that enjoyed playing this season no matter where you finished. Thanks to our fixture secretary Sandy Cordon for keeping all the teams on course to finish in time. I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM to collect your well deserved trophies.

Smith Cup & Plate Finals
The finals of the Smith Cup & Plate handicap competitions took place on Tuesday evening at Bedford Modern school. The Smith Cup was won by the Modern A team of John Alsop, Ben Gardner and Andy Trott who defeated the Elstow C team consisting of John Rodger, Tony Tiffen and Mike Copperwheat.

The Plate final was a closer event where Civil Service B just nudged ahead in the final match beating St Neots E by just 2 points. Thanks go to Bedford Modern School for providing their gym and to Richard Lake and Paul Birch for organising the event.

Brian Copperwheat Charity Tournament
The Brian Copperwheat Charity Tournament took place on Wednesday night and was very well attended raising 146 for local charities. Mark White (Elstow) defeated Graham Green (Civil Service) in the final of the Cup and Geoff Bell (Civil Service) beat Tony Tiffin (Elstow) in the final of the Plate competition. Thanks go to Bedford Modern School for providing their sports hall and to Sandy Cordon for organising the event. Prizes were presented by Anita Copperwheat in memory of her husband Brian who is a well remembered former league player.

Kempston Boy's Brigade A Team Withdrawal
Kempston Boy's Brigade A team in the 1st Divisiion have had to withdraw from this season's competition. As a result, the committee have decided to discount all the matches they have played in the second half of this season. The web site results tables have been adjusted appropriately.

St Neots Official Opening
The Champagne corks were flying on the 6th Feb-10 when 100 members and guests attended the official re-opening of St Neots Table Tennis Club. The event was to mark the completion of a major refurbishment programme which saw the club premises updated with a new build social and clubroom area, showers and toilets, and last but not least a completely refurbished Table Tennis hall.

The draw for Round 4 of the Smith Cup and Round 3 of the Plate competitions has been published on the web site and the results from the previous round. Division 5 team Kempston B must consider themselves most unfortunate losing by only a single point to Division 3 team Elstow C

Modern G Withdraw From Division 4
Modern G have withdrawn from Division 4. As a result the committee have decided to count all matches played against Modern G during the first round of matches and not to count those few matches played in the second round. The tables have been updated appropriately.
