Modern B v Modern A

Well final match of the season and the A team required a 10-0 to wrestle the league title away from St Neots A, providing of course that the Webmaster had got his sums right.

Frank said it all…

And now the end is near, and so we face the final curtain. My friends I say it clear, I’ll state my case of which I am certain……We are FINISHED!

All of our games are played, enemies made and old friendships forged, we even talked to a few people on other teams.

Or the Old Un’s against the Youngsters (Ashton excepted)

Marston v Elstow B
The finish line is in sight.

I am sure that you will be sad to hear that the Elstow Bees only have three games left to play before the end of the season. Providing that our form holds we should have done enough to avoid the drop and continue playing in the friendly division.

Elstow B v Civil Service A
Sometimes second isn’t that bad.

After a fine report from Mr Andy Trott I feel a bit inadequate now. Not only is he the best player in the league (so I am told!) but he also writes a better report than me, is there no end to the man’s talent? Answers to the webmaster please. I will continue in the same vain as previously and hope to one day reach the giddy heights set by our correspondent in the top division.

St Neots A v Modern A

On a freezing cold evening Modern A skipper John “Curtis Strange” Alsop opted for the warmth of the Northampton Unity sports hall rather than the visit to Champions elect St Neots A.

Southill C v Elstow B

Fish, chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce do not make for a good pre table tennis match dinner I am reliably informed by our ever trusty Foxxy. Foxxy turned up to the match against Southill looking distinctly green around the gills and not really up for the fight ahead.

Elstow C v Elstow B & Elstow B v Stevington D
War……what is it good for?

Last night the Elstow Bees had to travel all the way to Elstow to play league contenders Elstow C. The Bees were Ginner, Foxxy and Freddie whilst the C team were Colin Hands, Tom Oliver and Peter Jones. Obviously the match was going to be played in high spirit and so it proved… well almost.

Elstow B v Modern E
Ups ………and downs!

Last night the Bees took on the Mighty Modern in a clash of young versus old, new styles versus cunning league style!

St Neots D v Elstow B
St Neots…where is that?

Well the Elstow Bees moved on to the first game after the Christmas break travelling to somewhere called St Neots? This is apparently MILES away from anywhere, it is even further away than Stevington!

Elstow B v Marston
Hold On To Your Hats ……

Having had no practice since our rather ignominious defeat in the Smith Plate last week we were not hopeful of a win against another of our old adversaries Marston. In our last encounter Marston won out easy winners 7-3. Our hopes however were raised when we found out that their best player Nick Wharton was not playing. The team that showed up was Keith Hudson, Mo Duncan, and a new boy to me, John Hughes.

Elstow B v Civil Service E - The Plate
Smith Plate has been smashed !

The Elstow Bees moved on to the Smith Plate this week to place all of our hopes in a cup run to salvage some sort of respect from the season.

Civil Service A v Elstow B
Battered and bruised.

Having suffered a major beating last time we played, Elstow B team were not really looking forward to the trip to the Modern School sports hall to face the strong Civil Servants on their home patch.

Stevington A v Modern B
What a debut!

The first time someone plays their first match in Division 1, they often want to forget about it. In the case of Nathan Forbes, one of Bedford Modern’s young rising stars, his debut would probably rate as unforgettable!
